The 2005 Waveland Chronicles

Sunday, April 10, 2005

Another 12 inning affair, although this one had a much happier ending than Friday's fiasco. Cubbies win today 6-5, thanks to lots of "small ball" activity. While I certainly don't mind getting the win, obviously I wish there'd been a few long balls here and there. Maybe tomorrow with the Padres in town. However, batting practice was more to my liking today - a total of 17 came out; mostly from the Brewers.

I snagged a few, but of course the one I most remember is the one that got away - spoken like the true fisherman I am. I run up; get all camped under the ball ready to make an easy catch; then I hear Dick the Bruiser yell "Kenny"; I get a little spooked, thinking maybe a car or bike was coming; and ball goes off the tip of my glove and bounces down Kenmore.

So I go back to my spot, suitably embarrassed, when this young boy, probably only about 10 years old, comes up to me and says "That's okay. Sometimes these things happen." Out of the mouths of babes. Cracked me up... ;-)
